After the start of the Industrial Revolution ~ 1830, immigrants from Greece, French-Canada, Ireland, Portugal, Lithuania, Romania, Jewish Russia, Sweden and elsewhere   poured into the city to provide human manpower to the clanking, mechanical, and grinding  machinery of the textile mills.
