The transition from elementary school to high school in 1953 underscored several important changes in my early formation as an American lad, who was still weighing out the possibility that his future might, one day, bridge the cultural gap between the insular, working-class mentality of his New England roots in manufacturing and his deep association with the feelings and attitudes of Quebec forefathers going back to ~ 1605.
Tales of Frontenac, Jacques Cartier and Saint Jean de Brébeuf that had been told to me by the good nuns at L’Ecole Saint-Louis de France still sounded an appealing allure in my child-like brain.
